Inside Scoops

Just like the weather, crime has cooled off in recent weeks, leaving

Huntington Beach Police spokeswoman Sgt. Janet Perez with little to

report.

The biggest news is that canine unit dogs are now outfitted with

bulletproof vests.

“That’s the extent of our activities -- dog vests,” she said. “The way

things are going they won’t need them.”

...but not for the council

However, Huntington Beach Mayor Dave Garofalo may need one.

At Monday’s City Council meeting, Garofalo presented an award to San

Diego resident Stephanie Taylor, founder of the Vest-a-Dog Program that

helps raise money to buy the protective clothing.

Considering all the political slings and arrows he has to withstand,

Garofalo asked her, “Would you consider a Vest-a-Council Person Program?”

PROUD GRANDPA

You won’t catch Fountain Valley Councilman John Collins, a recent

grandfather, without a photo of his new grandson to show off to anyone

that comes within reach.

“I just dropped another roll off to be developed,” he said Friday.

To make it easier for everyone, he now just carries the best four of each

roll.
