Magic wins battle of unbeatens
Nguyen Dau scored 22 points and Nate Hagland grabbed 18 rebounds to
go along with seven points Sunday to lead the Fountain Valley Magic past
El Toro, 49-45, in a Division I semifinal showdown of the 2000 National
Junior Basketball Championship Series.
In the battle between a pair of 11-0 teams, Ricky Hagen also scored 12
points and added five assists and Ryan Pham scored eight points along
with 10 rebounds as the Magic (12-0) advanced to Sunday’s championship
game at Edison High (5:15 p.m.).

FV Grizzlies 55, Placentia Rockets 48
In another Division I matchup that featured seven lead changes, the
Grizzlies battled back from a three-point deficit to pull out the second
round win. Robert Hansen came up with six steals, Nico Caputo had five
steals, Jason Croswell hit three, three-point shots and finished with 11
points, Kevin Ferraro played outstanding defense, and Michael Entin paved
the way with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
Whittier 43, FV Hornets 29
The Whittier Thunder broke open a tight contest by going on a 14-0 run to
end the Division I semifinal game. Jason Urbaniac scored 12 points to
lead the Hornets, who play in the division’s third-place game Sunday.
DIVISION 2
FV Red Storm 56, Newport Mesa 48
Samer Haddad scored 21 points to lead a Fountain Valley scoring attack
that saw nine of its 10 players break into the scoring column, and the
Red Storm, winners of all 12 games this season, advanced to Sunday’s
title game at Chaffey College.
