Baseball: CdM beats Artesia, 5-3

NEWPORT BEACH - Corona del Mar High’s baseball team scored five

runs in the first two innings to get a 5-3 win over visiting Artesia

Thursday in the Newport Elks Tournament.

CdM’s Billy Eagle hit run-scoring singles on his first two times at bat,

and his teammate Derek Loe went 2 for 3. Pitcher J.D. Martinez threw a

complete game and picked up win for CdM (2-1). He only gave up five hits.

CdM Coach John Emme praised his team’s defense, and cited Loe, Andrew

Johns and Wes Hockinson.
