Junior Crew: NAC storms the Bay Area

LAKE MERCED - Battling high winds and rain, the Newport Aquatic

Center Junior Crew team battled on in the 16th annual San Francisco

Novice Regatta last weekend.

Conditions were so difficult that some teams had boats capsize and sink

and a few rowers from competing teams needed treatment for hypothermia.

Nevertheless, the NAC tied with the San Diego Rowing Club for first in

the Novice Women’s Single race and placed first in the Women’s Novice

Four.

Ann Kertcher shared the top spot in the 1000-meter Singles race, despite

strong winds and whitecaps.

The Novice Four beat host Pacifica by three seconds, with April Atiba,

Devon McCalla, Tamara Bartlett, Alexis Rich and coxswain Lauren Lyon on

board.
