Huntington Harbour residents Lorraine and William McCune have contributed

$12,000 to help three students from Western State University College of

Law. Each student received $4,000 from the Scott McCune Scholarship fund,

awarded by the Orange County Legal Education Foundation.

The McCunes established the scholarship fund in 1990 in memory of their

son, Scott, an attorney and Western State University alumnus. Since its

creation, the program has awarded $212,000 in scholarships.

“The Scott McCune Scholarship is one of the most important and beneficial

grant programs available to Western State University students,” said

Dennis R. Honabach, dean of the university’s College of Law.

The Scott McCune Scholarship has benefited nearly 40 graduates. To be

eligible, students must be in at least their second year, maintain a 2.5

grade point average and have an interest in pursuing a career in tort

law. Members of the scholarship committee also factor the financial need

of each applicant into their final decisions.

“The selection process is difficult because there are many students who

deserve this scholarship,” William McCune said. “Lorraine and I believe

Scott would be proud of the help he has provided to these students. It

gives us great pride to follow these recipients and to observe them as

they become successful in their chosen profession.”
