Newport Harbor High School students who participated in the Orange County

Academic Decathlon last month won 18 individual medals. Competing against

68 other teams from throughout the county, Newport Harbor captured third

place for overall team score and second place for team score in the super

quiz category.

Alex Arjad won first place for math and second place for economics. Doug

Dukes won first place in the interview category and fourth place in math.

Tony Gielow captured four medals: first place in math, second in speech,

fourth for his overall score and fifth place for social science.

Steve Weller placed first for math, third in both the interview category

and for his overall score and fourth place for social science.

Jamie Dow earned third-place medals in literature and economics, fourth

place in fine arts and math and fifth place for his overall score.

Sorayah Ockuoglu placed fifth in the interview category.
