Orange Coast College professor of counseling services Steven J. Goetz was

recently declared the college’s Faculty Member of the Year for 1999-2000.

... Costa Mesa resident Chris Spenser was recently awarded the Silver

Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America. The award recognizes those who

have given outstanding service to youth over an extended period of time.

Spenser, who is committee chairman of Troop 188, was one of 28 national

recipients of the award for 1999. ... U.S. Navy Hospitalman Recruit

Thorin D. Mayba, son of Costa Mesa resident Wanda S. Floyd, recently

graduated from the Field Medical Service Technician Course at Field

Medical Service School, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Mayba is a 1989 graduate of Estancia High School ... The city of Newport Beach has added two new

firefighters to its department. Jeff Boyles and Jim Jeziorski were given

their badges earlier this month. ... Julia Sutton, who was OCC’s Female

Student of the Year for 1998-1999, has been named to the 2000

All-California Academic Team. Sutton, a digital media arts major,

graduated from Costa Mesa High School in 1976.
