Race for Cure proceeds distributed
Funds raised from the 1999 Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure at
Fashion Island in Newport Beach have been granted to various charitable
organizations throughout Orange County.
Recipients of the grants, which total $537,000, are nonprofit groups that
extend the reach of the Komen Foundation in the areas of breast cancer
education, outreach, screening and treatment.
Here are the organizations and the amounts, which will be distributed
over the coming year: $8,000 to Santa Ana-based American Cancer Society;
$10,000 to Garden Grove-based Breast Cancer Survivors; $38,224 to Santa
Ana-based Catholic Charities of Orange County; $15,000 to Irvine-based
Healing Odyssey; $137,592 to Huntington Beach Community Clinic; $7,977 to
Kids Konnected, based in Laguna Hills; $57,717 to the Laguna Beach
Community Clinic; $15,504 to the Orange County Breast Cancer Partnership
in Santa Ana; $15,000 to VNA Home Health Services in Santa Ana; $8,000 to
Laguna Beach-based South Coast Medical Center; $12,000 to Santa Ana-based
Stop Gap; $18,648 to the Western Law Center for Disability Rights --
Cancer Legal Resource Center in Los Angeles; and $193,232 for
YWCA-ENCORE-plus in Fullerton.
