Marlins survive Cardinals in seven, 8-7

James Menke’s single scored Martin Duran in the bottom of the

seventh inning to lift the Marlins to an 8-7 extra inning victory over

the Cardinals in Fountain Valley Little League Majors Division weekend

play.

The Marlins, who also dropped a 3-2 decision to the Yankees during last

week’s action, rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the fifth

inning. Jeff Spirk had two singles and an RBI triple and Duran had an RBI

single for the winners.

Grant Furuya singled twice, both Greg Nakatani and Andrew Bender added a

single and RBI, and Corey Ferraro gave the Cards a short-lived 7-6 lead

with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning.

It was the second loss of the week for the Cardinals, who fell, 5-4, to

the Dodgers.

Mariners 10, Yankees 0

Marlin pitchers Josh Larson and Octavio Gomez limited the Yankees to a

single hit, a fourth inning infield single by John Larner. Ryan Buckles

singled and tripled, Joe Musser had an RBI double, Tim Nash a pair of

singles, and Larson added an RBI single for the Marlins, who also

defeated the Royals, 7-5.

Royals 5, Dodgers 3

The Royals, who erased a 2-1 Dodgers lead with a four run fifth inning,

got two singles and an RBI from Evan Gamos, a triple from Nick Floetker,

Brian Kacoullas had an RBI double, and Daniel Elo an RBI. Sean Atchison

and Dominic Santana had RBI singles for the Dodgers.

MINOR A DIVISION

Mets 6, Reds 2

The Mets broke a 2-2 tie by scoring four runs in the fourth inning.

Andrew Stadnick singled twice with an RBI, Taylor Fah also singled twice,

and pitcher Robert Johnson struck out five in two in two scoreless

innings for the Mets, who also defeated the Yankees, 7-2.

Devil Rays 15, Diamondbacks 4

Kevin Smisko singled twice, hit an inside the park home run, and had five

RBI to power the Devil Rays. Jason Gorman also had three hits and an RBI,

and Joey Reyes delivered an RBI for the Devil Rays, who also beat the

Dodgers, 10-8.
