Girls soccer: CdM’s O’Meara PCL MVP

Junior sweeper Molly O’Meara, who led Corona del Mar High to the

Pacific Coast League girls soccer championship, has been named Most

Valuable Player by the league’s coaches.

O’Meara, who anchored a defense that posted six shutouts during a 6-0-2

league campaign, tops a list of eight Newport-Mesa District standouts

named to the first team.

Seven additional local players are second-team choices.

CdM, which advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division IV semifinals

and finished 17-5-4, also places sophomore Allison Harvey, senior Julia

Livingstone, freshman Alicia Morgan and junior goalie Britta Vogele on

the first team.

Vogele was a first-team All-Sea View League performer as a freshman and

sophomore, while Harvey, the team’s leading scorer, was a second-team

choice in the Sea View last winter.

Costa Mesa is represented on the first team by junior Katie Roche and

freshman Sharon Day. Roche was a first-team choice as a sophomore.

Estancia senior Becca Silva is another first-team honoree.

Costa Mesa senior Candace Nicholson is a repeat second-team selection,

while CdM senior Kate Simon, another second-team choice, was second-team

All-Sea View last season.

Senior goalie Margaret Landeros and junior forward Fernanda Velazco also

represent Costa Mesa on the second team.

Joining Simon from CdM on the second team are senior Jessica Luchesi and

freshman Paige Janes.

Estancia senior Meghan Fay is also on the second team.

Locals receiving honorable mention are: Julie Kroening, Faride Loera and

Marissa Dinsdale (Costa Mesa), Helen Flores and Arlis Reynolds

(Estancia); as well as Kristin Hanson and Alivia Mazura (Corona del Mar).
