Tournament championship with a dramatic home run from Kevin Stuart. He

hits a three-run blast in the eighth inning to give CdM a 7-4 victory

over Santa Margarita.

Newport Harbor’s baseball team takes third place in the tournament with a

7-1 win over Century. Scott Sandstrom goes 3 for 5 with three RBIs for

the Sailors.

Estancia’s baseball team finishes fifth in the tournament with a 6-0 win

over cross-town rival Costa Mesa. Scott Usher pitches a one-hit shutout

for the Eagles.

In the Pride of the Coast semifinals, Garrett Nuzum pitches a complete

game as his Sea Kings’ baseball team tops Century, 10-4.

Joe Urban hits a home run as Newport Harbor’s baseball team edges

Brethren Christian, 3-2, in the tournament opener.

Julio Vasquez’ two-run triple highlights Costa Mesa’s 10-5 victory over

Rancho Alamitos in Pride of the Coast baseball.

Laura Wilson is the only Newport Harbor girls track and field athlete to

win an event in the Mt. San Antonio College Relays. She takes the girls

open discus with a throw of 118-5.

Three Orange Coast College athletes finish first at the Mt. Sac Relays.

Erin Remy wins the women’s 3,000 meters, Mike Hancock triumphs in the

men’s 3,000, and Steve Gonzales is the winner in the men’s shot put.

Estancia’s boys golf team takes first place in the Tribute to Youth

Tournament, one stroke over Brawley. Pete Krutzik shoots 72-80 to lead

the Eagles.

Newport Harbor’s golf team finishes 10th in the tournament, led by Morgan

Anderson’s 76-76.

Ten years agoNewport Harbor’s baseball team swamps Back Bay and Sea View

League rival CdM twice. In the first game, the Sailors pound out an 18-4

laugher. Brady Lamar has Newport’s highlight in an 11-run third inning

with a three-run homer.

In the second game, Bob Sliker pitches a complete game as his Sailors

beat CdM, 4-1.

Estancia’s baseball team scores six runs on only one hit in the first

inning en route to a 12-3 victory over Sea View League rival Tustin.

Lenny Herman gets the only Estancia hit in that inning with a three-run

double.

CdM’s boys tennis team edges Newport Harbor, 10-8. David Bain wins two of

three sets for the Sea Kings. Newport’s Brent Hansen-Dent sweeps in

singles.

Estancia’s softball team wins its first game of the year with a 5-1

decision over Newport Harbor. Leah Braatz pitches a complete game for the

Eagles.

Newport Harbor’s boys swim team beats Estancia, 104-44, as Richard

Ruffini wins the 100-yard and 200 freestyle events for the Tars.

Newport’s girls swim team triumphs over Estancia, 87-69, but the day’s

highlight belongs to the Eagles’ Jenny Sheldon, who sets a personal

record in the 50 freestyle with a winning time of 25.8 seconds.

OCC’s women’s swim team breaks a state record by winning its 69th

consecutive dual meet, 107-24, over Saddleback.

Estancia’s Debbie Hargrove sets a school record in the discus with a

throw of 130-0 1/2, but the Eagles’ girls track and field team falls to

Newport Harbor, 84-43. Kim Robinson wins the mile and two-mile races for

the Sailors.

CdM’s boys golf team defeats Newport Harbor, 207-225. CdM’s Steve Dana

and Joey Lyle shoots 38 and 39 respectively.
