Case throws one-hitter, Mariners blank Cards

Bryan Case limited the Cardinals to just one hit and struck out 11

in five innings pitched, and the Mariners paired that performance with a

potent offense to record a 9-0 shutout victory in Fountain Valley Little

League Majors Division play at Mile Square Park.

Carlos Telez produced a two-run scoring single, Ryan Buckles singled and

doubled, Justin Maddux hit an RBI single, Tim Nash smacked a ground rule

double, and Nate Cotton and Matt Bennett each drove in runs for the

Mariners, who also were 3-1 winners over the Marlins.

Michael Maghy’s single was the lone hit mustered by the Cardinals, who

also beat the Royals during the week, 9-4.

Yankees 3, Royals 2

Jeff Mitchell and David McClelland each had two hits, John Larner had an

RBI single, and McClelland pitched a complete game four hitter for the

Yankees, who also fell, 3-2, to the Dodgers. Alex Moreno and Nick

Floetker each had RBI singles for the Royals.

Marlins 6, Dodgers 2

Martin Duran had a pair of singles, scored three runs, and had an RBI,

Jessey Cordero had a hit and two RBI, and Zach Moore hit two singles for

the Marlins; Michael Sosa belted a two-run triple for the Dodgers.

MINOR A DIVISION

Dodgers 3, Diamondbacks 2

Jordan Weber doubled among two hits and John Spirk struck out eight in

three innings pitched for the Dodgers, who also topped the Orioles, 17-3.

Devil Rays 16, Reds 3

Kyle Ziething hit a bases loaded triple, scored three runs, and added a

fourth RBI to power the Devil Rays, who also took care of the Yankees,

13-3. Garrett DeJong, Joseph Fried, and Daniel Castle each singled for

the Reds, who also beat the Diamondbacks, 12-8.

Mets 13, Orioles 2

Andrew Stadnick’s two-RBI double was the key hit in a 10-run second

inning for the Mets, who also defeated the Angels, 9-2; Brenton McCarthy

doubled for the Orioles.
