Cardinals get past Dodgers, 3-1

Pitching dominated Saturday’s meeting between the Cardinals and

Dodgers, and it was the Cardinals who pulled out a 3-1 victory in Seaview

Little League Majors Division action.

Cardinal starter Nick Cappuccili struck out 11 and allowed just two hits

in four innings, and reliever Austin Morgan struck out four with one hit

to close out the victory.

Dodger hurler Jayson Hayes also was tough on the mound, striking out

seven while allowing one hit.

In other games:

Pirates 3, Angels 2

In another pitcher’s duel, the Pirates’ Eric Uttecht struck out six and

gave up four hits in a complete game, and Jake Pinkham fanned nine and

allowed four hits for the Angels.

Reds 3, Yankees 2

In a seven inning affair, Reds pitchers Cory Kindness, Valle Fluss, and

Michael Sheedy combined to strike out seven and give up three hits and

two walks for the Reds; Yankee ace Danny Higgins’ complete game included

10 strikeouts, four hits, and two walks.

MINOR A DIVISION

Mariners 9, Royals 6

Carl Eberts went 2 for 3 and pitched the final two innings of relief for

starter Aaron Amaral (three hits, seven strikeouts in four innings) for

the Mariners (4-0); Chance Ross went 3 for 3 and Bryan Visnoski had two

hits for the Royals (1-2).

Yankees 17, Rockies 3

Craig Spreeman’s complete game victory featured 12 strikeouts and three

hits, Spreeman and Derek Bauermeister each had two hits, Jake Wells had

three hits and five RBI, and Nolan Marcucci went 4 for 4 with two RBI to

power the Yankees (2-2); Addison Babinski had two hits and Jake Burke

singled for the Rockies (1-2).

Pirates 5, Angels 5

Jacob Sobelman singled and both Aaron Birk and Matt Bublitz had key

doubles in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Angels (1-2-1), who

rallied with five runs to earn the tie; Zack Campbell went 2 for 2 to

lead the Pirates (2-0-1).

MINOR B DIVISION

Marlins 15, Tigers 1

Pitcher Ryan Miller struck out 14 in a complete game victory and also

produced a pair of doubles, Alex Bauer doubled twice, and Wes Lightman

tripled for the Marlins.

Cubs 12, Yankees 5

Jimmy Madden, Justin Fallon, Brandon Buchanan, and Sam Dennis all had key

hits for the Cubs; Stephan King, Greg Normann, and Christian Webb keyed

the Yankee attack.
