Poston posts county-best marks at Surf City Invitational

Edison High junior Daryl Poston ran to a county-best time in both

the 100 and 200 meter races Saturday, winning both events at the fourth

annual Surf City Invitational held at Huntington Beach High.

Poston ran a 10.80 in the 100 meters, then came back with a 21.92 in the

200 meters. Both times were 1/10 of a second off tying the school record

held by Kerwin Bell in each event.

The invitational attracted 27 schools, including host Edison and Fountain

Valley. There was no team scoring at the meet.

Edison’s Jimmy Thorson also produced the fastest overall time in the 400

meters, 50.08, and teammates Eddie Dwelley ran a county-best 14.74 in the

high hurdles, Scott Brandos went 9:41.00 in the 3,200 meters, and Kyle

McCarter placed second in the 1,600 meters with a season best run of

4:33.

At the frosh/soph level, Edison’s Danny Flanagan established a new meet

record with a 15.37 in the 110 meter hurdles, and the Chargers’ 4 X 100

meter relay team of Brandon Blades, Ricky Bolotin, Flanagan, and Chucky

Linman also went into the meet record books with a record time of 45.02.

Edison returns to Sunset League action today, hosting Los Alamitos in a

2:45 p.m. start.
