THE ISSUE: We ran our sixth annual Big Kahunas list of the 95 most

influential people in Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach on March 23.

Here’s what readers had to say about our picks.

A very good [job] on showing the movers and shakers of Huntington Beach.

Every one of them is of a commendable group of citizens who devote so

much energy to helping us where we fear to tread.

I’m happy to say, I see some of these people often because I am a

volunteer at the Huntington Beach City Hall, a CERT [Community Emergency

Response Team] volunteer.

A suggestion -- if you run out of Big Kahunas, you will find a large

number of special people in the CERT program. These people devote their

nights and weekends to train, develop skills and volunteer their time to

help with disaster preparedness, sand bagging senior residents’ homes to

avoid flooding during heavy rain storms, pet and animal care, training

for an earthquake ... etc.

They honor their volunteers, as you do the Big Kahunas, as the volunteers

of the month. Jackets and hats are given for taking the CERT disaster

preparedness classes sponsored by the Huntington Beach Fire Department.
