Softball: Sailors blanked by Irvine

NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High’s softball team opened Sea View

League competition with a 6-0 loss to visiting Irvine Wednesday.

The Sailors (9-8 overall) could only muster one hit off of Villanova

University-bound Kari Singley. The Vaqueros’ hurler struck out 12 and

only allowed a single by Stephanie Ciralli in the game.

On defense, Breanne Parmeter threw out an Irvine runner from right field,

while Mariko Makami played solid in center.

Newport will play at Laguna Hills Friday at 3:30 p.m.
