Paulson 14th at Masters
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Costa Mesa High product Dennis Paulson, who
captivated the golf world by seizing the first round lead at the Masters,
finished tied for 14th after shooting par 72 Sunday at Augusta National.
Paulson’s four-round total of 289 was 1-over, 11 shots off the winning
total posted by Vijay Singh.
Paulson birdied Nos. 2, 3 and 8 Sunday and was 2-under at the turn. But
bogeys on 6, 10, 15 and 16, forced him to settle for par.
Paulson, in his third season on the PGA Tour, carded a 4-under 68 to open
the season’s first major, but shot 76 and 73, respectively, Friday and
Saturday. For leading the first round, he won a crystal vase. He also won
two crystal goblets for his first-round eagle on No. 2.
He hit 10 greens in regulation Sunday and had 30 putts.
Big Canyon Country Club’s Tiger Woods finished 4-under, good for fifth
place.
Paulson shared 14th with Chris Perry, Jim Furyk and John Huston.
