Mariners rout Cardinals

The Mariners moved closer toward a possible first half championship

in the Fountain Valley Little League Majors Division race by blanking the

Cardinals, 6-0, in Friday’s action at Mile Square Park.

Tim Nash singled twice and finished with two RBI, Joe Musser had a single

and RBI double, and Octavio Gomez added two base hits to power a Mariners

attack that also included run-scoring hits by Carlos Tellez and Ryan

Buckles.

Gomez, Nash, and Brian Case combined their pitching efforts to shut down

the Cardinals on three hits, which were singles by Ricky Rea, Mike Maghy,

and Jonathan Bustamante.

In other games:

Marlins 5, Dodgers 1

The Marlins scored three runs in the fourth inning to break open a

scoreless tie. Jeff Spirk singled and doubled, while Jessey Cordero,

Michael Britt, and Jordan Brown all singled for the Marlins.

Sean Atchison doubled and Joel Stanton singled twice to lead the Dodgers.

In a game played Wednesday:

Yankees 5, Marlins 5 (9 innings)

The Marlins scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to force

extra innings in a contest that eventually was called due to a time

limit. The game will be completed at a later date, league officials said.

Phil Burden, Jeff Mitchell, David McClelland, Mark Cubberly, and Matt

James each had base hits for the Yankees.

Jessey Cordero singled and doubled with an RBI, Mauricio Onofre had an

RBI single, and Michael Britt, Zach Moore, Jeff Spirk, and Martin Duran

each had base hits for the Marlins.

In Minor A play:

Dodgers 13, Angels 1

Pitchers Jordan Weber and John Spirk combined to hold the Angels to one

hit, a Garrett James single, as the Dodgers won behind a potent offense

that featured three single sand two RBI by Spirk, two singles and an RBI

by August Greutmann, and RBI singles by Taylor Wilson, Joe Peters, and

Daisuke Nishikawa.

Trevin Sofferman had the lone RBI for the Halos.
