Cheech Cabrera throws a complete game for Estancia in the Eagles’ 8-3

triumph over Laguna Beach in PCL baseball.

Newport Harbor’s baseball team ends its season with a 7-5 loss to El

Toro.

Newport Harbor’s Melissa Schutz is named the Sea View League female

athlete of the year. In girls swimming, she also advances to the CIF

Division I finals in the 50 and 100-yard swims.

Orange Coast College’s women’s swim team captures its seventh consecutive

Community College State Championship. OCC’s Erin Snow, Brady Wright,

Sandra Pietza and Michelle Pereira clinches the title by winning the 200

medley relay.

CdM’s Sandra Zubin finishes second in the CIF Division I diving

championship with 513 points.

Estancia’s Chris Felix advances to the CIF Division III boys track and

field finals by winning the 100 (11.09).

Ten years ago

Tom Nichols swims a 46.9 in the final leg of the 400 freestyle relay to

give Newport Harbor a 10-point win over Corona del Mar for the Sea View

League title. CdM’s Tom Simpkins captures the 200 and 500 events for the

Sea Kings, who were prematurely announced as the winner before the last

event.

CdM’s girls swim team won both relay races to win its sixth consecutive

league championship. Estancia’s Jenny Sheldon won the 50 race.

CdM’s boys volleyball team takes the Sea View League title with a 15-4,

15-10, 15-7 victory over Estancia. Jon Upham paces the Sea Kings with

nine kills and eight assists.

Newport Harbor’s baseball team keeps its CIF playoff hopes alive with a

4-3 win over Saddleback in the Sea View League. Bob Sliker throws a

complete game for Newport.

Greg Prough drives in three runs as his CdM baseball team defeats

University, 12-7, in the Sea View League.

Orange Coast College collects two state championships. The women’s swim

team win as the 400 medley relay squad of Mora Clark, Tricia Gibb,

Christine Williams and Karen Paulitschek set a state record with a

4:03.03.

OCC’s men’s volleyball team defeats Santa Barbara, 14-16, 15-13, 15-6, 15-6, for the state crown. OCC’s Matt Lyle is named the tournament MVP.
