The Orange County Scholastic Foundation held an awards ceremony for its
second annual Academic Competition on April 8 at Santa Ana High School.
More than 200 students, from fourth through 12th grades competed in math,
spelling, vocabulary, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, history,
Greek mythology, literature and geography.
Local first-place winners include Jonathon Tran, fifth-grader at Circle
View Elementary School, in math and vocabulary; Christina Goeders,
sixth-grader at Mesa View Middle School, in math; March Dedrich,
seventh-grader at Bernardo Yorba Middle School, in math; Nam Nguyen,
eighth-grader at Mesa View Middle School, in algebra; Raffi Aharonian,
senior at Marina High School, in algebra; Alexander Cassidy, sixth-grader
at Mesa View Middle School, in spelling; Veronica Kim, eighth-grader at
Mesa View Middle School, in spelling; Annie Liu, sophomore at Mater Dei
High School, in spelling; Alexander Cassidy, sixth-grader at Mesa View
Middle School, in vocabulary; Christopher Dodd, eighth-grader at Garden
School of Fountain Valley, in vocabulary and geography; Avery Burdette,
ninth-grader at Huntington Beach High School, in vocabulary; Sylvie
Truon, fourth-grader at U.V. Plavan Elementary School, in geography;
Piero Remedios, fourth-grader at Circle View Elementary School, in
poetry; Danielle Beranek, sixth-grader at Grace Lutheran Middle School,
in poetry; Cara Remedios, sixth-grader at Marine View Middle School, in
poetry; and Robert Morrill, eighth-grader at Kline School, in poetry.
Royal Regiment holds spring concert
The Fountain Valley High School Royal Regiment will present its annual
spring concert at 7 p.m. May 2 in the Fountain Valley High School
gymnasium.
Scheduled to perform are the string orchestra, wind ensemble, symphonic
band and jazz band. There will also be an appearance by the color guard
and percussion groups.
Tickets are $3. Incoming middle school students will be offered free
admission with proper identification.

Kindergarten registration set
Fountain Valley School District’s eight elementary schools will hold a
Kindergarten Roundup on scheduled days through May so parents can
register their children for fall kindergarten classes. Students must be 5
years old on or before Dec. 2. Incoming kindergartners may accompany
their parents and will have an opportunity to visit a kindergarten
classroom.
Registrations will be held at 1:30 p.m. on the following days and
locations:
* Tuesday (3 p.m.) at Tamura Elementary School;
* Thursday at Newland Elementary School;
* May 4 at Oka Elementary School; and
