This beautiful topsail schooner had its home port at Balboa from 1929 to

1931. She is 84 feet, 8 inches in length overall, 64 feet on the

waterline with a 6-foot draft with the centerboard raised.

Harry J. Bauer, the owner, moored Sartartia off his summer home at 1501

E. Bay Ave. on the Balboa Peninsula. Sartartia was designed and built in

1929 on the East Coast.

Captain Hayden, a down-Easterner from Maine, brought Sartartia to Balboa

in 1929. He remained as Bauer’s captain until his death in 1936. Members

of his family still live in the Harbor area.
