KIDS TALK BACK -- What is good about home schooling?

“It’s great. I don’t have to worry about all of the problems in the

public schools, like fighting. We do a lot of activities, especially in

science and spelling. Being home schooled makes me concentrate more.”

JUSTIN CONKEY, 12

Sixth-grader

Lakewood

“It’s fun. But it’s not fun for this reason because I don’t get a recess.

I have a wonderful teacher, my mom. I do math, language, arts, English,

science. But I still have a long way to go to decide what I want to do

when I grow up. So I will deal with that when I am 18.”

JACOB YOUNG, 9

Third-grader

Newport Beach

“I like being home schooled because there are a lot of fun things to do.

Mathematics is my favorite subject. My father and my mother teach me. And

when I grow up, I want to be a teacher in the schools.”

CASSANDRA RUPAY, 8

Second-grader

Costa Mesa

“Right now I am learning about letters and colors. Sometimes we rest for

a moment. I also learn about letters on the computer. Next year, I will

probably learn how to read and the names of the different kinds of

animals.”

STEPHANIE RUPAY, 5

Kindergartener

Costa Mesa
