Men’s water polo: USA falls in French Open finals

NICE, France - The United States men’s national water polo team

lost, 11-10, to Italy in the finals of the French Open Sunday.

Chris Humbert, Wolf Wigo and Jeremy Pope each scored two goals to lead

the Americans, who are captained by current Orange Coast College men’s

and women’s water polo coach Chris Oeding and coached by Corona del Mar

High boys and girls water polo coach John Vargas.

Leading, 10-9, with under five minutes remaining, Italy scored twice down

the stretch to pull out the win.

The team heads to Dubrovnik, Croatia for the four-team Coratian Cup

tournament. Joining the Americans will be Italy, Australia and host

Croatia.
