With spring in the air, Huntington Beach Mayor Dave Garofalo was feeling

all warm and fuzzy toward his fellow council members at last week’s

meeting.

When he didn’t notice the order in which his colleagues signaled their

desire to speak on an issue, he improvised.

“I wasn’t watching, but I’ll go by beauty,” he said. “Mrs. [Shirley]

Dettloff is first.”

Next came the “handsome and charming” Ralph Bauer, the mayor said.

Bauer was left almost speechless.

“Gee whiz,” Bauer said with a wide grin.

Biblical virtues wantedFilling vacancies on Huntington Beach’s

advisory board for mobile home parks isn’t a job for the meek, Councilman

Peter Green said at last week’s council meeting.

With the mobile homeowners and the park owners distrustful of one

another, finding common ground will take a special breed of resident, he

said.

The city is looking for individuals “who have the wisdom of Solomon and

the patience of Job, and a few of the other attributes of the Old

Testament patriarchs,” he said.

Falling prices

At a recent Mayor’s Breakfast, Fountain Valley Mayor Guy Carrozzo was

telling the audience about the upcoming Easter egg hunt.

“If you want to take pictures with the bunny, it’s $2,” he said. “If you

want to take pictures with John [Collins], it’s a little less.”
