READERS RESPOND -- Don’t double the metered parking fees

Parking fees are an annoyance.Last week, I tried a movie and snack on

Main Street. Parked in the garage and got two validations for my $60

outing. I still had to pay a couple of bucks for going over the time

limits.Tried a brunch and used the same garage. I got charged again for

the same reason. To use street parking at $2 per hour would be silly,

because I am already subsidizing and paying for garage parking through

the businesses patronized.[Parking cost] is one of the factors in

deciding where to go. Sunset Beach has many nice alternatives for dining

and no parking fees and is equidistant from my residence. If I want to

just get my feet wet and go for a walk, I go to Sunset because of the

inescapable parking fees, looking at my watch and avoiding the parking

vultures in the city of my residence.Redondo, Hermosa, Long, and

Manhattan beaches all have free street parking starting a few blocks from

the water, but Huntington has seen fit to meter the world well beyond

easy walking distance.
