Tars clinch tie for title

IRVINE - Newport Harbor High’s golf team clinched no worse than a

tie for the Sea View League championship with a 16-stroke victory over

Irvine’s Vaqueros Wednesday at the par-36 Oak Creek Golf Course.

Jake Allanach was the medalist with a three-under 34, which included

three birdies as the Sailors, ranked fourth in Orange County, improved to

15-2 overall, 6-1 in the Sea View.

Other Sailors in the scoring column: Daniel Kush, 35; Kevin Olson, 37;

Scott Tippett, 37; and Mitch Johns, 39. In a nonscoring finish, Miller

Akins carded a 39.

Irvine, ranked No. 7, drops to 11-6, 4-3.

The Sailors can claim the outright Sea View crown today with a victory

over Aliso Niguel at Big Canyon CC, starting at 2 p.m.
