Swimming: Newport girls set two school records

ALISO VIEJO - This year’s version of Newport Harbor High’s girls

swim team continued to rewrite the school history books. The Sailors

(5-2, 2-2 in league) broke two school records Wednesday en route to a

105-45 Sea View League victory over host Aliso Niguel.

Sophomore Carly Geehr broke the school record in the 500-yard freestyle

with a 4:55.12. She then joined Amy Murphy, Jenna Murphy and Nicole

Mackey to break the school mark in the 200 free relay with a 1:42.57.

Newport’s boys swim team also defeated the Wolverines, 119-51. The

Sailors’ (6-1, 3-1) Ryan Gough, took the 100 backstroke (1:02.81) and was second in the 100 free (50.93). His teammate, Ryan Cook won the 200 free

(1:59.15) and was third in the 50 free (23.22). Newport’s Joey Snelgrove

won the 50 in 22.96.
