NBLL Majors: Red Sox master the Cardinals

NEWPORT BEACH - J.R. Dion pitched a complete-game one-hitter to

lead the Red Sox over the Cardinals, 4-1, in Newport Beach Little League

Majors Division action last weekend.

Dion struck out 10 in the win and was helped by strong defense from Jason

Poulsen, John Gothard, Grant Gerdau and Michael Ford.

Scott Leimkuhler and Dion each had singles in the sixth inning and each

scored on a two-run triple by John Angelo.

For the Cardinals, Braden Ross and Steven Hinton combined to strikeout

six and walk zero, wile Andrew Slusser had the team’s lone hit, an RBI

single, scoring Paul Neff.

The Cards were led defensively by Sam Stafford, William O’Brien, Ryan

Telles and Tony Jones.

In other Majors Division action:

Red Sox 9, Yankees 4 - Scott Leimkuhler pitched four strong innings for

the Red Sox, striking out four before Tanner Nuzum came in to throw the

final two innings.

J.R. Dion, John Angelo and Brett Crowley each had two hits, while Jake

Wuebben, Nuzum, Leimkuhler and Michael Ford each chipped in with one hit

for the Red Sox.

Vinnie Saint John and Kyle Schneekluth pitched well for the Yankees. The

duo, along with Zach Von Berg each had key singlesfor the Yankees.

Red Sox 6, Diamondbacks 1 - J.R. Dion and John Angelo combined to toss a

two-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead the Red Sox over the

Diamondbacks.

Angelo, Dion, Brett Crowley, Tanner Nuzum, Scott Leimkuhler, Grant Gerdau

and Jason Poulsen each had key hits in a key five-run inning, breaking a

1-1 tie.

Diamondback pitchers Scott Colton and Wyatt Cole combined to walk only

one while striking out four.

Greg Garte, Grant Hefferman and Hunt Rychel led the D-Backs’ defense,

while Spencer Wampole walked twice and scored the team’s lone run.
