ZEN PRACTICE

Six classes on the Zen practice will be presented by the Zen Center of

Orange County beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday at 120 E. 18th St., Costa Mesa.

Classes will meet at 2 p.m. on consecutive Sundays through June 18.

Classes will cover presentations, sitting, handouts, discussion,

exercises and videos. Admission for nonmembers is $120. For more

CHANCEL CHOIR TO PERFORM

The Chancel Choir will perform at Newport Harbor Lutheran Church at 9:15

a.m. on Sundays. Confirmation and Adult education are at 10:30 a.m. The

RELIGIOUS ENVIRONMENT

St. Mark Presbyterian Church will commemorate Earth Day 2000 with a

one-hour lecture titled “A Win-Win Approach to the Environment” at 11

a.m. on April 30. Tom English, an environmentalist, will discuss

environmental crises, global warming and the extinction of species. The

lecture is free. The church is at 2100 Mar Vista Drive, Newport Beach.

TEMPLE ISAIAH TO HOST COURSE

Temple Isaiah of Newport Beach will host two courses taught by Rabbi Marc

Steven Rubenstein. Rubenstein discuss the 613 Commandments of the Torah

and the Great Book of Laws. The course begins on May 4 and ends June 29.

The cost for the class is $30 for nonmembers. Members of the synagogue

can attend free. The Temple is located at 2401 Irvine Avenue, Newport

ABUSE SUPPORT GROUP

St. Mark Presbyterian Church hosts a faith-based, nonsectarian abuse

support group from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays at the church, 2100 Mar Vista

Ave., Newport Beach. The group is $5 or donations. For more information,

‘JESUS IN BLUE JEANS’

The Rev. Gail Miller will hold a class based on Laurie Beth Jones’ book,

“Jesus in Blue Jeans,” from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays. The class will consider

the ways Jesus would deal with practical, everyday challenges. The class

meets at the New Thought Community Church, 1929 Tustin Ave., Costa Mesa.
