Softball: Vanguard splits

COSTA MESA - Vanguard University’s softball team split with

visiting Cal State Hayward Thursday in a nonleague doubleheader.

In the first game, Alysia Atchley threw a three-hit shutout in a 2-0

Vanguard (24-29) win. Erin Gomez had the Lions’ lone RBI. In the second

game, Cal State Hayward (26-10) won, 5-3, in nine innings. Vanguard’s

Valerie Vanaken went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
