College softball: Lions split with APU

COSTA MESA - Host Vanguard University managed only four hits in two

games, but still pulled off a Golden State Athletic Conferece softball

doubleheader split Saturday with Azuza Pacific, ranked No. 5 in NAIA.

Vanguard pitcher Cheri Smith scattered five hits and gave up an unearned

run to pick up second-game victory, a 2-1 decision.

Smith also had one of the Lions’ three hits in the game, which followed

an 8-0 Azusa triumph that included Jodi Miller’s five-inning one-hitter.

Vanguard (25-30, 10-14 in conference) dropped Azusa to 44-11, 19-5).
