RETAIL ROUNDUP

The main attraction at The Clubhouse’s Mother’s Day brunch (which will be

held May 14, but you knew that already) is supposed to be the spread of

smoked salmon, Eggs Benedict, beef tenderloin and other tasty

goodies.Call us perverse, but even with all these treats on the menu,

Retail Roundup is still most excited about the buffet for “junior

members,” which features mini corn dog bites and mac and cheese.

Those delicacies are only for children 12 and younger. Fortunately, we at

Retail Roundup appear exceedingly youthful.

And we love our moms!

TAKIN’ OFF THE RITZ

This week, the curious sensibilities and iron stomachs of Retail Roundup

boldly venture into the culinary realm.

First off, we sadly lament the closing of Sunday dinner service at The

Ritz.

Hans Prager, owner and founder of the Newport Beach restaurant, says

axing the Sunday meal is supposed to boost employee morale, a strategy

that will allow him to retain the high-caliber employees he needs to

provide good service.

Maybe so, but we’ll sorely miss those Sundays at the Ritz as we sit in

line at the Burger King drive-through.

It just won’t be the same.

THE LIFESTYLE OF LALIQUE

Finally, on a non-gustatory note, we are compelled to point out that

Traditional Jewelers in Fashion Island will be holding a seminar on the

artful arrangement of flowers in conjunction with Lalique, New York.

First hint from the class: buy a very expensive Lalique crystal vase.

Just like that, you can be living “the lifestyle of Lalique” and have the

Visa bill to prove it.

Of course, once you’ve replaced your IKEA vase with something dainty and

made of fine crystal, you’ll have to buy some better flowers instead of

those crummy mums from the grocery store.

If you dare attend, the seminar is at 6 p.m. May 11. Call (949) 721-9010

for reservations.
