Angels belt A’s, 12-2, win first half title

A playoff game Thursday between the Angels and Rangers to determine

the first half champion in Huntington Valley Little League Majors

Division play turned into a mismatch, as the Angels rolled past the

Rangers, 12-2, at Inspiration Field.

Damion Loukas powered the victory by going 2 for 4 with 4 RBI.

The Angels’ offensive fireworks also included Michael Jacinto going 2 for

2 wit ha double and RBI, Ricky Pineda going 3 for 4 with an RBI, Frankie

Mead going 3 for 3 with a double and RBI, Joe Byers getting a single and

two RBI, and Michael Hensley going 2 for 3 with two RBI.

Cody Steiner and Ryan Van Herk each had an RBI for the Rangers.

In other games:

Diamondbacks 4, White Sox 0

Jon Van Dyke threw a one hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and Joshua

Valenzuela drilled a three-run home run to highlight the Diamondbacks’

victory.

Charles Pearson tripled for the White Sox.

A’s 7, Rangers 6

Jordan Marquette smacked an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning

to score Shayne Robinson with the winning run and cap the A’s comeback

victory. Cody Walker reached base on a bunt, and scored the tying run on

Robinson’s single.

Robinson paced the A’s by going 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI.

Cody Steiner went 2 for 3 with two RBI, Adam Sciarrillo had two RBI, and

Ryan Van Herk and Aaron Matillo each had an RBI single to lead the

Rangers.

Mariners 11, Angels 2

Nate Hill pounded out two doubles to lead a potent Mariners offense. Hill

ended the day with a 3 for 4 performance, which also included an RBI.

Other key Mariner hits included a pair of singles and an RBI by Cory

Sorenson, an RBI triple by Lucas Aumiller, and a Matt McGwire double.

Ricky Pineda went 3 for 4 with a double to lead the Angels, who also

received two hits apiece from Damion Loukas and Frankie Mead, and a

double and single by Joe Byers.
