Tennis: BBC to host community college state tournament

NEWPORT BEACH - The Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club will host the

Hyundai-California Community College Men’s and Women’s Tennis State

Championships May 12-13.

Participants in these events are comprised of the Orange Empire

Conference, which includes Orange Coast College, Saddleback, Irvine

Valley, Fullerton, Cypress, Riverside and Santa Ana.

Events on May 11 begin at 11 a.m. with practice matches and matches

beginning at noon. The State Championships begin on May 12 at 8:45 a.m.

Semifinals and finals for both singles and doubles will be held on May

13, beginning at 9 a.m.

Serving as tournament directors are OCC’s women’s coach Janice Maran and

Bill Otta of Saddleback.

Bob Ogle, general manager of the BBCRC, will serve as site director with

Glenda Winterbotham serving as the assistant site director.

The BBCRC is located at 1602 East Coast Highway in Newport Beach. The

event is open to the public and admission is free.
