Temple Bat Yahm honors ‘Women of the Year’

Temple Bat Yahm honored three outstanding women Tuesday at its 16th

annual Women of the Year Luncheon at the Sutton Place Hotel in Newport

Beach.

Gayle Henryck, Shila Libby and Serene Stokes were recognized for their

many accomplishments both at the temple and in the community.

Henryck, who was honored for service on the Sisterhood committee, has

been active with the temple for 25 years. She has served on numerous

committees over the years, including the Flower Fund, the Caring

Committee, Oneg Committee, Chanukah Bazaar and Women of the Year

Committee. She currently serves on the Sisterhood Board and the Temple

Membership Committee.

Libby was recognized for her service to the temple, where she has served

on several committees. Her work has included conducting Shabbat and

Passover workshops for Rabbi Mark S. Miller. She has lived in Newport

Beach since 1976.

Stokes, who received the honor for community service, has sat on numerous

temple committees and helped organize the volunteer program for Heritage

Pointe. She and her husband of 48 years, Sid, and their family have been

members of the temple for 26 years.

Stokes is a member of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of

Education. Her community involvement also includes work with the Newport

Library Arts and Education Center, Friends of the Orange County

Interfaith Shelter, California Retired Teachers Central Division Board of

Directors, Santa Ana Girls Club and the Corona del Mar Chamber of

Commerce.
