The inaugural Newport Beach Spring Antique Show, sponsored by the Lido

Isle Women’s Club, will be held on Mother’s Day weekend, Friday from 10

a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Diana Miner says she

hopes it will become an annual event, and one of significance in Southern

California. There will be many antique dealers showing off their wares.

Sale items will include French, English and American furniture; early

California art; maps; books; silver; jewelry; porcelain; antique linens;

painted vintage pieces; chandeliers; and lamps. Tickets to the show are

$12 at the door, and $8 for groups of six or more. Admission includes a

show catalog. A catered luncheon and snacks will be offered in the Lido

Isle clubhouse, featuring views of the Newport Harbor.

“The Lido Isle Women’s Club has a long history of sponsoring unique

events and giving something back to the community,” says Nancy Helm,

president of the club. “A portion of the net proceeds will be distributed

to Childhelp USA and the Harvester Food Bank.”

Villa Nova Restaurant is offering a special Mother’s Day brunch from 11

a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Dinner will be served from the regular dinner menu

beginning at 4 p.m. There are breakfast and lunch entrees, as well as

classic Italian favorites, including pasta, seafood, chicken and veal.

Menu prices for the Mother’s Day brunch are $7.95 to $14.95. Also, Villa

Nova will have drink specials, including champagne by the glass for $1,

menu for early evening sunsets over Newport Harbor. Included on the new

menu are an assortment of pasta dishes, chicken parmigiana, veal Milanese

on a bed of homemade linguine. Salad, soup and dessert choices are also

offered, as well as the decadent Grand Marnier chocolate souffle with

fresh raspberries and homemade whipped cream. The twilight dining menu is

offered from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 4 to 6 p.m.

Sundays. It’s even better to reserve a window table for Villa Nova’s

great harbor view while you dine at sunset. Villa Nova is at 3131 W.

The Campus Colleague Club at OCC has published a cookbook called The

Disabled Gourmet. “Our members and friends collected the recipes,” says

Edwina Crites of OCC. “Techniques for disabled cooks were submitted by

two registered occupational therapists, a professor of adaptive physical

education, a nurse, and from the experience of disabled members of our

organization.” All proceeds from the sale of the cookbook go to

scholarships and special needs of disabled students at OCC. It’s not

written just for the disabled, but for anyone who wants easy and quick

The newest collection of impressionist paintings by renowned Hawaiian

artist Lau Chun will be on display Saturday, when Chun will make a rare

personal appearance from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lahaina Galleries at

Fashion Island. The floral paintings are showcased as part of the

center’s annual spring flower show, “Art of Spring.” China-born Chun has

made an immediate impact on Hawaii’s art scene; he’s a rare colorist

whose paintings show a feeling of enjoyment and enhancement of life. Now

internationally recognized, Chun’s work has been shown at Lahaina

Galleries for more than 15 years. Reservations are recommended for the

“Art of Spring” continues through Sunday with floral displays and a

variety of entertainment through the center, including children’s crafts,
