Local woman’s photography judged a winner on Web site

Nicole Rogers’ photographs of the Huntington Beach Pier, the Golden Gate

Bridge and zoo animals have earned her a seven-week trip to Europe.

Rogers, from Balboa Island, recently was named one of seven grand-prize

winners in the “Win Big” talent contest featured on a new Web site, o7

Upstage.comf7 .

The Web site provides an online community for young artists in seven

fields -- digital and visual arts, music, film, modeling, writing and

performance -- to collaborate and promote their work with online

portfolios.

Rogers and her fellow winners also have been awarded laptop computers,

video and digital cameras, luggage and MP3 players. The European

adventures will be filmed and broadcast on the Web site.

More than 300 entries were received in the contest, and about 5,000

visitors to the site cast votes, Upstage.com officials said.

Photography is one of Rogers’ passions, along with ballet and jazz,

according to her biography on the site.

“When I have a camera in my hands, I am in heaven,” she wrote. “I think

there is nothing better than looking at the world through a camera lens.”

Rogers, 19, attends the University of San Diego. To see her work, go to

the Web site at o7 https://www.upstage.comf7 .
