American soldiers killed in combat will be honored in a special Memorial
Day tribute at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Newport Harbor High School.
A plaque honoring past Newport Harbor High attendees who died for their
country in World War II and the Vietnam War will be dedicated at the
ceremony, which will take place near the previously unused flagpole at
the front of the school.
American Legion Post 291 in Newport Beach has also donated a new American
flag to be flown at the school in honor of its war dead.
Michael Mangan, a 1963 Newport Harbor High graduate, will receive special
honors as the highest-decorated officer from Orange County who served in
the Vietnam conflict, said Newport Beach historian George Grupe.
