The Huntington Beach High School baseball program will host the HB

Baseball Camp for five weeks, beginning June 19, Ernie Diaz of the Orange

County Scorpions Baseball Club, announced Wednesday.

The NCAA collegiate level instructional All-star camp is open to

youngsters ages 9-15, with instructors coming from the Orange County

Scorpions summer All-star baseball team. Collegiate players who will be

on hand at the camp represent USC, Penn State, BYU, the University of San

Francisco, Arizona St., Oklahoma, Loyola Marymount, and Chapman

University.

The camp director is Ron Pirayoff, an assistant varsity baseball coach at

Huntington Beach High, and a former collegiate standout at Loyola

Marymount. Moe Geoghegan of Scorpion baseball is the camp organizer.

“This camp is much like many camps organized throughout many summer

collegiate leagues all over the country, giving campers a chance to be

instructed by possible future professional athletes,” Diaz said. “The

ratio of one instructor to every eight campers provides an excellent

opportunity for personal attention as well as personal direction for the

children. The 13-15 year old age group campers will learn how to prepare

for high school baseball, both on and off the field, as well as certain

aspects of collegiate recruiting.”

Diaz also stated that campers will be given family season passes to

Scorpion summer collegiate All-star games at Saddleback College.

The regular camp schedule begins with campers stretching, running, and

throwing. After they are divided into groups of eight, campers will go to

various stations to work on hitting, defense, and pitching, with new

drills being implemented every week.

The camp will be organized like a collegiate practice, with Monday and

Tuesday camp days ending in group discussions. Topics will include the

mental aspects of the game, as well as keeping grades up in school.

On Wednesday and Thursday during the five weeks, campers will scrimmage.

On Fridays, camps will end with skills competitions and awards will be

given for the top performers.

Batting cages as well as equipment will be available for the campers

through Huntington Beach High.

The five weeks of camps will be held on the following dates: Session 1,

June 19-23; Session 2, June 26-30; Session 3, July 10-14; Session 4, July

17-21; Session 5, July 24-27.

Daily times for campers are as follows: Ages 9-12, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; Ages

13-15, 1-3:30 p.m.

Cost of the camp for one session is $100. All five sessions are available

to each camper for $500. All campers will be given a camp T-shirt and hat

to be worn as uniform, and awards will be given to standout campers and

in skills competitions.

Deadline for the camps if June 12. For more information, call
