Huntington Beach woman wins Golden West award
Rozanne Capoccia received this year’s R. Dudley Boyce Outstanding Student
Award. Named after the college’s founding president, it is Golden West
College’s most prestigious scholarship.
The Huntington Beach resident was one of hundreds of students who
received a portion of the nearly $250,000 in scholarships granted this
month. Among her contributions to the school is her work in shaping the
transition to the college’s innovative 16-week academic calendar from the
standard 18 weeks. She served on the hiring committees for two of the
three college’s vice presidents. She was also in on the ground floor of
the successful Student Ambassador Program, which puts peer interaction at
the heart of new student recruitment.
President of the Associated Students of Golden West College, Capoccia has
served as senator, activities commissioner and vice president of student
government. She was recently appointed to the state chancellor’s newly
created Financial Aid Access Task Force.
Upon graduation, Capoccia plans to complete her bachelor’s degree at Cal
State Fullerton, followed by a master’s degree in either educational
administration or counseling.
