Chambers hands Reds first loss of season

Behind the standout pitching performance of Justin Chambers, the

Angels handed the Majors Division leading Reds their first loss of the

season, 7-1, in action at Ocean View Little League.

Chambers notched the complete game victory by taming the potent Reds

offense on just one hit, a single by James Kang.

Chambers also struck out 14 and for good measure, received some clutch

hitting from his offense.

The Angels forged a 2-0 second inning lead on three walks and a two-RBI

single by Jon Grothe, who finished the contest with three hits, three

RBI, and two runs scored. They added another run in the third inning when

Thomas Burns singled and scored on Michael Cherf’s RBI double, scored in

the fourth inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by Grothe and Scott

Melchert (two hits), and again in the sixth on a walk, a Grothe single,

and Andrew Zar’s two-RBI single.

In other games:

Cardinals 3, Mariners 0

Cassidy Hunkle’s three-RBI single in the first inning was enough to get

the Cardinals the victory, although they did not muster another hit off

Mariner pitcher Andy Chersin the rest of the way.

Nick Orendorff, Thomas Yoo, and Chersin each singled in the first inning

to load the bases, but the Mariners could not score. The three singles

would be the only hits the Mariners would get off Cardinal pitchers Brett

Sterbens and Chris Palmer.

Astros 4, Dodgers 3

Trailing 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Astros

scored twice to get the comeback win, which culminated in Matt Shealy’s

two-RBI single.Dallas Walters had a two run home run - his seventh homer

of the year, which gave the Astros a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning.

Rory Jones had two hits and two RBI, and Greg Gonzalez doubled among two

hits to lead the Dodgers./
