The fourth- and fifth-graders at Tamura Elementary School will present

the “A Fussin’ and A-Feudin”’ play at 6:30 and 8 p.m. today at the

Kids show they have winning characters

The Fountain Valley School District honored the following students from

Courreges Elementary School for their achievements and character: Alex

Arriaga, kindergarten; Brittany Brown, first grade; Amanda Hsu, second

grade; Aarushi Sharmis, third grade; Jared Case, fourth grade; and

Jeremie Lever, fifth grade.

Foundation gives out 27 scholarships

The Frank M. Doyle Foundation honored 27 senior at Ocean View High School

with scholarships that total $71,624. The recipients are Jose Antonio

Benits, Christine Chen, Duke Dang, Cong-Dank Do, Vinh Do, Derek Eglit,

Amy Garrett, Ha Tu Huynh, Juan Carlos Jasso, Tracy Jessner, Jill Kim,

Justin Krueger, Nicholas Krueger, Nancy Le, Edith Lopez, Stephanie Low,

Nicole McDonald, Lizandro Najera, David Nguyen, Huong Phung Nguyen, Trinh

Nguyen, Hamilton Pham, Matthew Stone, Roberto Tapis, Dinh-Tran Nu Ton, Vy

Truong and Jose Xicohtencatl.

Pegasus tops at science fair

Pegasus School in Huntington Beach has been named an outstanding school

in the Orange County Science Fair’s Junior Division. Students in sixth

through eighth grades won 12 awards. The winners include Devin Campbell,

eighth grade; Eric Mirowitz, eighth grade; Laura Gordon, seventh grade;

Brittany Behrens, seventh grade; Marisa Choy, seventh grade; Jessica

Horowitz, sixth grade; Roger Billingsley, sixth grade; Georgie Konugres,

sixth grade; Ronnie Flathers, sixth grade; and Katrina Lindsay, sixth

grade.

Local woman honored for academics

Leslie Mayes of Huntington Beach was honored at Cal State Long Beach’s

annual Alumni Awards Banquet and during commencement ceremonies.

Mayes received a bachelor’s degree degree in business administration with

an option in marketing at the College of Business Administration. She

earned the highest grade-point average in the marketing department while

working full time for Advantage Sales & Marketing and taking care of her

family. Mayes is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and

volunteers for the City of Hope.

Huntington Beach grad wins award

Brent Chancellor of Huntington Beach was honored as the recipient of a

$2,000 academic scholarship from the California’s Teacher Assn.

Chancellor was an honors student at Huntington Beach High School before

graduating in 1998. He now attends Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he is

studying to become a teacher and pursuing a minor in business. He is on

the dean’s list for achieving at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

Chancellor plays soccer and is an orientation counselor for incoming

freshman.

Student gets full ride at Art Institute

Daniel Relich of Fountain Valley won a full-ride scholarship to earn his

associate’s degree at the Art Institute of Los Angeles, Orange County.

Relich, who has his own Web consulting firm, plans to major in multimedia

and Web design. The scholarship, which will cover the two-year program,

totals $33,000.
