Golf: Paulson wins
HARRISON, N.Y. - Costa Mesa High alumnus Dennis Paulson earned his
first PGA Tour victory Sunday, defeating David Duval on the fourth hole
of a sudden-death playoff to win the Buick Classic at Westchester Country
Club.
Paulson, who lost on the first playoff hole to Duffy Waldorf in last
year’s Buick Classic, holed a 3-foot par putt, after Duval had missed
from four feet, to claim the $540,000 winner’s purse.
Paulson, who led after the first and second rounds, but began the final
day two shots off the lead, finished 8 under through 72 holes, joining
Duval in the playoff.
A former national long driving champion who resides in Vista, Paulson
captured headlines earlier this season by leading after the first round
of the Masters.
