Lightning earns second place

The AYSO Region 143 (Westminster/Huntington Beach) HB Lightning, a

girls under-14 soccer team, finished second at the recently completed

Irvine Cup held at UC Irvine.

The Lightning advanced from their pool play bracket to the medal round,

where they proceeded to record shutout victories over Woodland Hills,

Beverly Hills and Manhattan Beach.

In the division’s title match, the Lightning dropped a 2-1 defensive

struggle to Lake Forest. Megan Bell scored the lone goal for the

Lighting.

In addition to Bell, other members of the HB Lightning include, Jessica

Abdou, Shauna Brown, Tara Fox, Aubrie Fuette, Jessica Goud, Ashley

Harold, Gena Johnson, Nina Kratter, Caitlin McGinnis, Ann-Marie Osgood,

Janet Peterson, Hilary Pohlman, Lindsey Rodgers, Lauren Stimmler and

Krista Thompson.

In each of the six tournaments the HB Lightning has participated in this

year, the team has reached the medal round.
