NBTC hosts junior camps

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Beach Tennis Club will host its 21st

annual Summer Junior Tennis Camps beginning June 26, the first of 10,

five-day camps under the direction of NBTC professional Dave Sherbeck.

Camps are open to all juniors (members and non-members) ages 6-17. Each

group is limited to six students. Lessons will include basic

fundamentals, drills and court etiquette.

Camp times are 9:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday-Friday, with lunch to

follow and optional swimming until 3 p.m. at NBTC. Camps are for

beginners and intermediate players. T-shirts and prizes will be awarded

SHSoftball camp set

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA - The Orange County Firestorm Girls

Fastpitch Softball Club will host its camp on July 11-13 at Trabuco Mesa

Park.

The camp instructor is Long Beach State University softball coach Pete

Manarino, the winningest coach in school history. The camp offers

instructions for 16 and under to 8 and under divisions.

The registration fee for teams of eight or more is $65. Individuals can

Cornett a winner

NEWPORT BEACH - Josh Cornett won the inaugural surf contest

benefiting the sophomore class at Corona del Mar High.

Cornett topped the 31-surfer field, which included Brett Lawrence (second

place), P.J. Wilson (fourth) and Bart DeClark (fifth) Saturday at 56th

Street.

The event, organized by sophomore class president Chase Hoeven, raised

more than $500.
