Reds and Brewers are winners

The Reds won titles in both Majors and Minor A Division play, and

the Brewers topped the standings in the Minor B Division as Ocean View

Little League concluded its 2000 regular season last weekend.

MAJORS DIVISION

The Reds finished the regular season with an 18-2 record, having defeated

the Astros, 14-4, before losing to the Mariners, 15-5, in the final week

of league play.

In beating the Astros, Jeff Van Doornum, who finished with four hits,

smashed a grand slam in the third inning to break open the game. Hank

Conger had a pair of home runs, James Kang joined the four-hit club,

Robert Peck had three hits, and Adrian Conger added two hits. Eric Jaso’s

two singles paced the Astros.

The Mariners ended their season on a high note by handing the Reds just

their second loss of the season as Andy Chersin had three hits and three

RBIs, Alex Van Arsdale had three hits, and Kent Redell had two hits.

Jarrett Carr had a two-RBI double, Kyle Engle had an RBI single, and Hank

Conger hit his division-best 18th home run in the 20-game season.

MINOR A DIVISION

The first-place Reds (16-4) closed out the season with a pair of

victories, the first being an 13-11 win over the Tigers as Matt Ayster

finished with two doubles and a single, Anthony Peralta had a double and

RBI, and Billy Allen came up with another key hit.

For the Tigers, Garrett Shinn had two hits and also didn’t give up a hit

or run while striking out three in two innings pitched. Ian Cable singled

and doubled, Luke Womack had two hits, Travis Kaufman had a hit and two

RBIs, and Bryan Williams led the way with two hits and four RBIs.

The Reds also dropped the Rangers, 19-9, by pounding out 16 hits, with MJ Forsberg getting a triple, double, two singles, and five RBI, Randy Guite

doubled among three hits with two RBIs, and Billy Allen added a double

and single.

MINOR B DIVISION

The division champion Brewers split their final two games, beating the

Angels, 7-6, before falling to the Orioles, 11-0. Riley Kuhl and Slater

Davies split pitching duties for the Orioles and faced just two batters

over the minimum in posting the shutout. Alex Nordin, Geoff Davis, Gray

Daughton, and Hayden Toney had key hits in the game.
