Jones fifth at USATF meet
DENTON, Texas - Recent Newport Harbor High graduate Trevor Jones
capped a brilliant senior season Saturday by finishing fifth in the
400-meter intermediate hurdles at the USA Track and Field Junior
Nationals at the University of North Texas.
Jones, the CIF State, CIF Southern Section Division II, CIF Masters Meet,
Golden West Invitational, and Orange County champion and record holder in
the 300 hurdles, went 52.23 in Saturday’s 400 hurdles final, after
running 52.61 to earn the seventh of eight qualifying berths in one of
three heats Friday.
Jones was also third at the national scholastic outdoor championships
June 17 in North Carolina with a time of 52.02.
Rickey Harris of Virginia, representing the Eclipse track club, won
Saturday’s event in 50.17.
Jones, who also ran the 110 high hurdles, the 100, 200, 400 and both
relays for the Sailors this spring, will concentrate on the 400 hurdles
at UCLA next fall.
