Swimming: Locals help AquaZot win meet

IRVINE - The Irvine AquaZot swim club, with athletes from Costa

Mesa and Newport Beach, won both the boys and girls titles at the NOVA AA

swim meet Monday at Heritage Park in Irvine.

Among the locals, Stephanie Gabert had two second-place finishes for the

AquaZot’s 5-10-year-old girls team, in the 50-meter freestyle (32.10) and

the 100 breaststroke (1:26.03).

Gaubert was a part of the victorious 200 free relay (2:16.11) with Lara Stouffer, Oria Poindexter and Kari Kruszewski, and the 200 medley relay

(2:25.11) with Stouffer, Kruszewski and Amanda Bebout.

Kim McKay was fifth in the girls 13-14 division 200 individual medley

with a 2:35.89. She was also ninth in the 400 free (1:05.03) and swam the

anchor for the winning 200 free relay team (1:57.43), which also featured

Mary Bressler, Yuuka Kikuchi and Carly Salas.

For the local AquaZot boys, Adam Hewko, Anthony Milovantsev and Duke

Krautim took part in five relay wins in the 13-14 division. They won the

800 free (8:58.29) with Evan Pham, the 200 free (1:51.15) with Santi Dominguez, the 400 free (4:14.06) with Scott Spansail, as well as the 200

medley (2:04.46) and the 400 medley (4:30.07) with Pham.

David Hwang was a part of four relay wins in the 11-12 age group. He took

part in the 200 medley (2:10.94) with James Barnett-Woods, Adam Heinz and

Eric Babbitt, the 200 free (1:59.36) with Heinz, Zachary White and James

Hickson, the 400 free (4:20.42) with Babbitt, Li and White, and the 400

medley (4:44.86) with Heinz, Babbitt and Li.
