NHBA Pinto: Newport takes fourth

GARDEN GROVE - The Newport Harbor Baseball Association’s Pinto 8

All-Star team placed fourth in the 20-team Garden Grove Tournament at

Westhaven Park.

Newport opened with a 10-1 victory over La Mirada and repeated the score

in a win over Placentia.

After an 11-0 loss to eventual champion Anaheim, Newport defeated

Whittier, 16-7, and Irvine, 17-1.

In the quarterfinals, Newport overcame a 4-0 deficit with a nine-run

sixth inning to upset Los Alamitos, 9-5.

The tourney came to an end, however, with a 7-2 loss against Tustin.

Newport’s squad consisted of Ryan Albert, Shane Carden, John Christian,

Connor Curry, Austin Deyan, Chris Gowdy, Kelly Heenan, Elliott Kaufman,

Chad Seeber and Justin Todd.
