Men’s crew: OCC crew coach on leave

COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College men’s crew coach Jim Jorgensen

will take a leave of absence from coaching to embark on a staff

development program, according to Athletic Director Jane Hilgendorf.

Longtime coach Dave Grant, who also served as OCC’s president from

1989-1996, will coach the team while Jorgensen is away.

Jorgensen will spend his time away from coaching taking rigorous

coursework to earn his Captain’s License.

This license will allow Jorgensen to teach “Introduction to Sailing”

courses on Coast’s big boats rather then on the smaller boats, which will

enhance the college’s sailing program.

Grant, who has coached crew for more than 30 years and was the freshmen

men’s coach this past spring, is still looking for more participants for

this upcoming season.
